What happens in an online doctor consultation?

Your GP takes your history, asks follow-up questions and assesses what can safely be assessed through the private browser video consultation.

If remote care is suitable, the doctor explains the treatment plan. A prescription, sick note or referral may be provided when clinically appropriate. If you need a physical examination or urgent care, the doctor will tell you.

hiDoc is not an emergency service. For severe symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding or signs of stroke, call 10177 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Payment and documents
Pay after the consultation. Any prescription, sick note, referral or other issued document is released once the doctor has completed it and payment is confirmed. A document is never guaranteed. You can send an issued prescription directly to your chosen pharmacy from your secure records page.
Your clinician
Meet the GP and view their qualifications and registration details. The doctor decides whether video assessment is suitable or an in-person examination is needed.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

How much is an online doctor consultation in South Africa?

hiDoc consultations currently start at R250. The exact fee and appointment length appear before you submit a request.

Can an online doctor issue a prescription or sick note?

A GP may issue a prescription, sick note or referral after an appropriate clinical assessment. It is the doctor’s decision and is not guaranteed.

How does the video call work?

Your appointment page opens a private browser video consultation. Allow camera and microphone access when your device asks so the doctor can see and hear you.

How fast is an immediate consult, really?

During consulting hours, you can request the next available appointment. The clinician confirms the request before a video consultation begins. We do not promise a specific wait time until enough availability data supports it.

Are your doctors actually registered?

Every clinician must provide a current HPCSA registration number before they can consult through hiDoc. Clinician onboarding is managed directly by the company.
